With the future prospect of energy prices likely to soar when the level of use of these non-renewable fossil fuel resources exceeds their threshold capacity, there is an urgent need for Malaysia to optimize the use of its huge quantities of palm oil biomass wastes as a renewable energy source.

renewable energy sources and the country is abundantly endowed nonrenewable resource such as oil (approximately 3 billion barrels), natural gas (1.61 trillion cubic meters) and coal (776 million tonnes) as well as renewable energy sources like hydro and solar power and biomass (Joanta, 1996). In Malaysia, biomass disposal from this industry is a major sustainable energy resource. According to the Malaysia Palm Oil Board, the annual production of palm oil biomass residue in Malaysia stands at an average of 53 million tonnes with a 5% annual growth projection [1]. Palm oil biodiesel also has the advantage of being a sustainable renewable energy, as the main raw stock; palm oil is a renewable resource on comparison with fossil fuels which will deplete in near future as fossil fuels are non-renewable resource. Palm oil can be sustained by re planting the palm seeds to restore the palm plantation. In this context, biomass from oil palm industries appears to be a very promising alternative as a source of raw materials including renewable energy in Malaysia. Thus, this paper aims to present current scenario of biomass in Malaysia covering issues on availability and sustainability of feedstock as well as current and possible utilization of One of the unique aspects of Malaysian renewable energy sources is that the palm oil mill is self-sufficient in energy, using PPF, EFB and shell as fuel to generate steam in waste-fuel boilers for Palm oil may seem a natural food and biofuel, but has instead ended up as a flashpoint of environmentalist suspicion and increasingly shut out of certain global markets. The European Union, the world’s largest single market, has imposed increased import restrictions and labeling requirements on palm oil. It also has specific exclusions under the new U.S. renewables standards, and One of the most efficient and effective solutions for sustainable energy supply to supplement the increasing energy demand and reducing environment pollution is renewable energy resources. Malaysia is currently the world's second largest producer and exporter of palm oil and 47% of the world's supply of palm oil is produced by this country.
